Time To Kill Poverty - Veep

Story: W.K Adusu
The Vice President, Mr. Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, has stated that now that the battle of pink sheet is over, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to rescue the people of Ghana from quagmire of poverty.
He said the people of Ghana who need not be poor are getting poorer; so it behooves upon the NDC government to increase the tempo of efforts to rescue them through the Better Ghana Agenda.
Vice President said, President Mahama is aware that young people in this country are crying for job; and he must provide it.
At the meeting with some party National Executives in Accra, after securing victory in the petition of presidential election hearing from the Supreme Court, Mr. Amissah-Arthur reminded the meeting of implementing the party’s manifesto to its letter.
He said it was eight-long months when the party and President were forced prosecuting the petition hearing case at the court and this has affected concentration.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur said the people would not wait after 2016 for the President to deliver, but would demand Mahama-led NDC government to deliver within the four-year mandate.
On this score, the Vice president said although the work has begun, they must increase the tempo now. He said people need not be poor, and that hard work is needed to reduce the level of poverty in this country.
Ghanaians are expecting governance to improve, there must be transparency in the way things operate; and these are part of the manifesto promises made with the people; and the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC government will deliver on them, the Vice President promised.
Addressing a huge crowd at the party’s Headquarters, Mr. Amissah-Arthur informed the people that the Supreme Court has vindicated the victory of December 9, 2012 and they are grateful for it.
He noted that it came to a point where people thought the case might not go in favour of the ruling NDC, but with hard work of great lawyers assembled, coupled with prayers, things went right and victory came for all.
He noted the party’s General Secretary, Asiedu Nketia chanting and praying alongside Dr. Kwabina Adjei, chairman who was having transcendental meditation.
The Vice President, thank God for the victory, and went ahead to commend the assembled NDC law luminaries, the young statisticians who categorised the pink sheets, of multiples, duplicates triplicates and quadruplicates for the able lawyers to pinch holes into, into what had become the painfully defeated handed to the opposition NPP brought to the Court.

He also thanked party supporters and urged them to jubilate in moderation. The huge NDC following present were hungry for jubilation, because, for eight-long months after the 2012 election, they were not able to jubilate due to the manner the defeated NPP plunged the country in to fear at that time.
