ADENTAN MCE KICKED OUT

By: Zulaihatu Abubakar
The Adenta Municipal Assembly last Friday kicked out its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mrs. Nubil Kakra Vanlare, after what looked like the lengthy political ‘monkey and lion’ fight.

Madam Vanlare after several ‘hide-and-seek from the waiting hammer of her in-party opponents’ ballot-whip, seemed tire and couldn’t hide any longer from the imminent fall which had been made known to her over and over again.

She woefully failed to hold on the last straw Friday, when the red-eyed assembly congregated to duly see her off, after the president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama nominated and wishes her well in her endeavour to receive favour from members of her assembly she seems to have been wronged during her last tenure.

Her predicament was so woeful that she could only garner meager 7 out of the 18 assembly vote, 2/3 of which could have sailed her through.  Her 7 vote thus, represents 38.89 per cent of the total ballots cast.

In related development, the Adentan assembly members for the fourth time, have again failed to elect a new presiding member for the Assembly.

Two assembly members, Madam Gladys Gillian Naadu and Mr. Amalai Botchwey who contested for the position of Presiding Member, also failed to get the two-thirds majority required by law, for that position.

The acting Presiding Member, Dr Desmond Aryee-Boi, has notified that, he was not seeking re-election for that position.

Speaking to the media after the election, Mr. Eric Tony Blair, an assembly member for the New Legon electoral area discloses that, according to the standing orders, a nominee who was unable to secure 50 per cent of the votes cast would have to be withdrawn by the president for a new person to be nominated.

He said, the former MCE failed to carve good rapport with members of the assembly, that was the reason why the Assembly members also failed to confirm her nomination.

“There is no way she could have won this election because her interpersonal relationship with us and the general work output was killing the assembly. So definitely she has to go because Adentan deserves a better and good MCE”, he concluded.

The democratically deposed MCE, however, failed to speak to the media after the election.
