Why Praise Nana Akufo Addo…He Doesn’t Deserve It

Unlike the lots that are pouring praises on Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, both locally and internationally, General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has a contrary opinion.

To him, Nana Addo has not earned it.

He is surprised at the avalanche of praises that are pouring in on the 2012 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because he believes he (Nana) has done nothing than to denigrate the Electoral Commission, and its Chairman, Dr Afari Gyan, insisting, ‘he doesn’t deserve it’.

“I am totally surprised that democrats will venture into that arena of saying that somebody that has been defeated at polls and decided that, that defeat was not a defeat; goes to court and the court rejects its claim, is said to have done this nation a service…

I don’t think that Nana Addo Danquah has done this nation any service… Nana Addo deserves no praise; no commendation. He said afari gyan was a thief but when he went to court, he could not prove thievery; the court upheld the position of Afari Gyan…” he argued.

According to him, the groups congratulating Nana Akufo Addo especially the International community, should rather heap praises on former President of Senegal, Abdulai Wade for conceding defeat and congratulating his opponent “even though his party members were telling him not to accept defeat; he did not go to court”.

He told the NPP and Nana Akufo Addo that they should rather apologise to Dr Afari Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) for calling him a thief.

“I expected the NPP, AFAG, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, to come out in the open and say sorry Sir (Dr Afari Gyan); we were wrong to falsely accuse you; the court has proven that what you did was right and we apologise: That will be an honourable thing to do but he did not do that and now everybody is trooping in saying Nana Akufo Addo conceded; he is a true statesman, he is a democrat…” he added in a panel discussion on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji.
